The goals outlined forth in Chris Hughton's contract as the new head coach of Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars, have been made public by Mustapha Ussif, the country's Minister of Youth and Sports.

Speaking to GraphicOnline on Thursday during the opening of the 2023 Ramadan Cup in Accra, the Minister stated that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has set goals for Chris Hughton, who was appointed coach last month.

The GFA has assigned Hughton with leading the Black Stars to the next African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire, according to the Minister.

Hughton has also been tasked with identifying young talents from local leagues, qualifying Ghana for the FIFA World Cup, and improving the country's Coca-Cola FIFA World ranking.

"To ensure that we reach the AFCON and identify local possibilities from our league, the FA has set goals for him.."

to guarantee both that we reach the World Cup and that our ranking rises in the FIFA Ranking. These are the goals stated in the contract he signed, according to Mr. Ussif.

The Minister urged all Ghanaians to support Hughton for him to reach his goals.

Ussif was pleased with Hughton's early performances, which included a victory and a draw against Angola in the 2024 AFCON qualifying matches.

Hughton received a one-and-a-half-year contract plus the option for another year from the GFA, making him the 34th coach since Ghana's last AFCON victory in Libya 41 years ago.
