A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) named Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has claimed that John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the former minister of trade and industry, is unfit to serve as the party's flagbearer.

Dr. Tamakloe claims that even though he would have personally picked Kyerematen to be the flagbearer for the 2024 presidential election, the fact that he was unable to resign from the Akufo-Addo government due to inappropriate behavior disqualifies him as a viable contender.

"Dr. Tamakloe stated, "I would have personally chosen Alan Kyerematen, but listen to me carefully. Alan Kyerematen may have made the right move earlier, which he did not do, and in my own opinion, I have rejected him.

"For a long time, Alan Kyerematen has been a member of the party.," he said. They were the kids that stayed behind after us. In response to the advice, he resigned in favor of Akufo-Addo. He cannot persuade me that he was uninformed of the various violations that took place when he was a minister since he was a cabinet minister. Alan Kyerematen ought to have had the guts to state that this is incorrect unless they all simply sit down and listen to Akufo-Addo speak. He ought to have taken the initiative to quit if the government didn't agree with him. Because of this, I think he lacks the culture of resignation, which is what might make him a wonderful leader for us.

Alan Kyerematen declared his intention to leave the Akufo-Addo administration in January 2023 to launch his potential NPP flagbearer bid. However, detractors of the former minister contend that given the government's part in the nation's present economic difficulties and several scandals throughout the administration, he should have quit sooner and for the incorrect reasons.
