Today, July 3, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will start the vetting process for its presidential candidates who are running for the party's leadership in the next general elections of 2024.

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former minister of trade, Kwadwo Poku, a well-known businessman, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the current vice president, are three of the candidates set for screening today.

Additional candidates for the screening process on Tuesday, July 4 are Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, a former Energy Minister, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former NPP General Secretary.

The final candidates will go through vetting on July 5 and 6, according to a statement from Evans Nimako, the National Presidential Vetting Committee's secretary.

However, the NPP has set aside August 26 for a special congress where five candidates will be chosen for the November 4 primary.

The party has established a nine-member vetting committee to supervise the screening of the 10 presidential candidates. Former Speaker of Parliament and professor Aaron Mike Oquaye serves as the committee's chair.

A critical phase in choosing the NPP's presidential candidate for the general elections in 2024 is the vetting procedure. The party is dedicated to making sure that each candidate's qualifications, experience, and aptitude for the leadership position are evaluated thoroughly and transparently.
