Archbishop Dr. Charles Agyinasare, the founder of Perez Chapel International, has received a stern ultimatum from the Chiefs and residents of Nogokpo, a town in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
They request that the revered cleric personally meet with them for a peace meeting in response to his disparaging remarks that Nogokpo was the "demonic headquarters of Volta Region."
The chiefs voiced their displeasure and demanded a settlement to repair the damage Agyinasare's statements had created.
at May 2023, Agyinasare delivered a sermon at a summit at Accra's Perez Dome, where he described an encounter he and his co-pastor had in Nogokpo after going to a crusade in Aflawu.
During a following sermon on May 28, 2023, the Nogokpo Chiefs and community people voiced their serious worry over his disparaging remarks and requested an explanation for his lack of contrition.
The Chiefs said that Agyinasare's remarks suggest that Nogokpo is a gathering place for depraved and bad people in the Volta Region.
They emphasized Nogokpo's historical significance by noting that during the fight for Ghana's independence, Osagyfo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the country's first president, asked the Thunder Deity, Torgbui Zakadza, for guidance.
"We, the Chiefs and people of Nogokpo, give Archbishop Dr. Charles Agyin Asare, the founder of Perez Chapel International, a 14-day ultimatum to come and speak with us face-to-face about his claim that Nogokpo is the demonic capital of the Volta Region. In May 2023, while preaching at a conference in Accra's Perez Dome, he made this disparaging remark. He spoke about an encounter he had with his co-pastor at Nogokpo following a crusade in Aflawu in the sermon.
Nogokpo is a quiet hamlet along the ECOWAS route that sees hundreds of passing cars and passengers every day.
The neighborhood takes pleasure in being quiet and accepting, expressing love to other tribes without compromising their morals.
The Chiefs made a point of saying that Nogokpo has never taken part in cruel practices or jeopardized its image in order to obtain financial advantage.
The chiefs agreed that fostering peace and combating religious intolerance were crucial.
They requested intervention and facilitation of a settlement between the Chiefs and Archbishop Agyinasare within the 14-day deadline from the Peace Council, the Christian Council, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, the Traditional Council, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the National Security.
The residents of Nogokpo reaffirmed their dedication to sustaining their ethics, ethos, and fundamental beliefs and emphasized the significance of doing so.
They are hopeful for a peaceful outcome and that Archbishop Agyinasare would hear their need for discussion to rectify the hurt brought on by his remarks.
In order to secure justice and foster tolerance among various religious groups, the community looks to the government and pertinent organizations.
