In an unexpected turn of events, the Bawumia Fun Club's cheque was denied by the National Executive of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

After presenting a cheque for GHC 50,000, the organization tried to get presidential nomination papers for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Friday. However, the party refused to provide the forms since the club lacked permission from the vice president's campaign team.

The Bawumia Fun Club believes that the Vice President should be the party's presidential contender in order to assist the NPP in maintaining power in the impending 2024 elections, also known as "Breaking the 8."

The organization was unable to pick up the nomination paperwork on behalf of the Vice President because the party required a permission note, which they were unable to supply.

The organization had to travel to Jubilee House to seek the vice president's office's endorsement, but they were informed that they were attempting to combine all the support groups planning to buy forms for the vice president's presidential run and issue one check for the forms.

Political pundits have expressed concern at the NPP National Executive's rejection of the check since it casts doubt on the validity of support group activities inside the party.

It also emphasizes the continuing discussion over who will succeed the current president. The end of Nana Akufo-Addo's second and last term as president.

Many political experts believed that Dr. Bawumia and former Trade Minister Alan K. Kyerematen would face off fiercely for the party's presidential nomination. It is unclear how the situation will develop over the next several months as unrest in the party grows.

However, the NPP's presidential primaries, which will choose the party's nominee for the 2024 elections, are anticipated to take place in late 2023. The contest for the position of the ruling party's flagbearer is still very open till then.
