Despite the number of people who have submitted nominations to run for the NPP's flagbearer position, according to pollster Ben Ephson, there are only three candidates left. At the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ephson serves as managing director.

Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, he said that according to his research, the top three candidates in the next primaries will be Vice President Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, an Assin Central MP, and Alan Kyerematen, a former trade minister.

As an explanation for his confidence in Mr. Agayapong, he stated, "I performed some work before and after the election of new delegates. Due to his absence from the legislature 15 years ago, Alan Kyerematen is suffering.

"Kennedy has been a member of parliament for 23 years; he has traversed the nation talking to the party and attending conferences while the delegates, who are now in their early 20s and 30s, were 15 years old at the time. Alan beating Kennedy to second place would really surprise me, in my opinion, Mr. Ephson said.

He stated that according to his study, Dr. Bawumia, Mr. Agyapong, and Mr. Kyermaten were the candidates that delegates were most interested in and that he believes the other contenders may not play a large role in the elections.

I am confident that these three collectively will receive about 80 or 85% of the total list, while the remaining percentages will be shared among the others, he said. Then we narrowed it down to the three just to get an idea of who would be first and the likely percentages.

I've given you the top three. Over 1000 super delegates will choose the top 5, and then over 2000 thousand delegates will choose which of the top five will be the flagbearer.

This follows the nomination of eight candidates to run in the November NPP presidential primary.

The contenders are Dr. Bawumia, Alan Kyerematen, Boakye Agyarko, Drs. Konadu Apraku and Owusu Afriyie Akoto, as well as former lawmakers Kennedy Agyapong and Kwabena Agyapong.

Ransford Gyampo, a lecturer in political science at the University of Ghana, agrees that the vice president and the former trade minister should run for president.

"There will only be these two front-runners in the primary election, yet some of them may be able to easily win over super delegates.".
